Using fimo or polymer clay to model insect playing pieces is really effective.
We made a couple of adult hoverflies and also two funny green hoverfly larvae!
Once the polymer clay is cooked the playing pieces are tough enough to be used for a board game. But be careful not to make any very thin legs or antennae as they may break!
We kept our hoverflies quite simple in shape with the wings tucked back against the body so that they weren’t too fragile.
We also tried mixing two colours together to make a ‘marbled’ effect for the wings and for the green larvae. Hoverfly larvae don’t look that much like our models but we like them anyway!
We are looking forward to trying these out with our hoverfly board game rough-ups!
